Abstract The study here is concerned with a thin solid body passing through boundary layer or channel flow and interacting the flow. Relevant new features from modelling, analysis computation are presented along comparisons. Three scenarios of such fluid-body interactive evolution in two-dimensional settings considered turn, namely long translating upstream downstream, little no translation short without translation. main progress findings concern predictions time taken by to traverse impact upon underlying wall, delicate behaviour at onset impact, dependence on parameters as initial conditions mass shape body, influence streamwise surrounding fluid
